Camps, towns and civic roles
A camp gives temporary protection; a town creates lasting responsibilities. Choose the right place and understand the permissions before inviting others.

Protect a temporary camp
A townless player activates a one-chunk claim through a Camp Hearth. Defaults give 48 civic hours of protection, a 24-hour cooldown before another camp and 8 trusted players. Owner/trusted access differs from other visitors, whose interactions are denied. Use the active hearth’s screen to dismantle it.
Joining or founding a town retires the camp. A valid camp site can become the owner’s town home chunk when founding. Camp placement still checks spawn distance and neighboring claims; placing a hearth is not a way to take existing land. Recipes are in the crafting index.
Found or join a town
Found through a Charter Desk in the Overworld with a unique valid name, no existing town membership, a valid site and the indexed 5,000 personal-wallet fee. Founding creates the organization, mayor and civic home plot. It does not fund the treasury. The home chunk must stay civic and cannot be unclaimed.
Joining needs an open town or valid invitation, no ban, an active town and no unpaid debt to it. Invitations and mayor handover offers last 24 civic hours. Membership is capped at 128. The mayor has a 72-hour dissolution notice path. Manage these tasks through the civic screens. This build does not provide a /town command.
Delegate the right responsibility
| Role or actor | Main scope |
|---|---|
| Mayor | Membership, policy, projects, succession and core settings |
| Steward | Delegated town management, with property/action checks |
| Treasurer | Treasury powers and Ward funding, subject to action checks |
| Surveyor | Claims/land administration and appropriate service linking |
| Recruiter | Invitations and recruitment |
| Sheriff | Town warrants within jurisdiction |
| District Steward | Assigned district, rather than unrestricted town-wide rights |
| Resident | Membership benefits; no general right to build in every plot |
| Plot owner | Location-specific property/trust rights |
| Tenant | Active lease rights, which can override the landlord’s access |
Use land/property and leases before granting access. Permission nodes do not replace role, location and ownership checks. Opening a remote Folio is not authorization to perform remote banking or service actions.
Allowance residents are a qualified subset
Allowance qualification excludes the mayor. A resident needs 72 civic hours of membership, 2 added play hours and activity within 7 days. The allowance uses the lowest of the current/hourly qualifying counts stored across the week. Current defaults are 2 base chunks + 0 per qualifying resident + development bonus. Older examples using 8 base and 4 per resident are superseded.
Allowance affects base-price claims, not the hard claim ceiling. Before inviting or expanding, read assessment and newcomer tax protection, which uses its own conditions.
