Districts, rooms and renting
Before offering a room, mark exactly what you are renting. A tenant’s rights apply inside that space, even when the landlord owns the building.

Organize a district
Town managers create named sets of claims, assign land and appoint District Stewards. The default maximum is 32 districts per town. Resident-building defaults and visitor-switch access apply to the district’s relevant land. Mayor/stewards separately control Ward exemption. District-wide sale still needs sellable, unowned land checks; a district name does not erase plot ownership.
Mark a room for rent
Use the Surveyor’s Tool to mark an inclusive three-dimensional bounding box on land the landlord owns. Creation checks ownership, overlap/conflicts and size; the default longest side is 48 blocks. Global room capacity is 256, with development capacities 4/8/16/24/40/64 also limiting growth.
A development housing unit is a room on residential land with volume at least 64 blocks and a whole accepted bed inside. “Find housing” inspects loaded land and records bed positions; an unloaded room does not automatically prove readiness.
Accept a rental offer
| Rental | Eligibility | Scope of tenancy |
|---|---|---|
| Room | Anyone not banned, subject to availability | Interior of the marked room |
| Whole plot | Residents; outsiders allowed for embassy land | Rented claim |
| Whole district | Resident eligibility and offer rules | Covered district land |
Review the quoted offer before accepting. The first day’s rent is paid on acceptance; later rent is prorated, with unpaid amounts tracked. Either party can end the lease with default 24-hour notice. Ending notice does not instantly restore an empty property. Unoccupied offers can change or be withdrawn; unoccupied rooms can be removed.
Check access at the actual position
Room tenancy is evaluated before whole-plot tenancy. A non-tenant, including the landlord, generally loses build/break/container access inside rented space; switches have town/inn exceptions. Active tenancy blocks conflicting sale, assignment, unclaim and destructive land changes.
Rent gives access for the lease; it does not transfer ownership. Rent-to-own is planned. When an action is denied, check the room boundary, active tenant, plot lease, trust, role and district default rather than assuming membership overrides them.
Use land/property for purposes and outposts, and town development for housing verification.
