Taxes, assessment and arrears

Know which account owes the bill before paying it. Personal earnings, town assessment, rent and service charges are separate obligations.

Identify which account owes the charge

ChargeBasis and destination/source
Server earnings taxWithheld on qualifying new personal earnings, not wallet balance
Town resident taxOne chosen method: flat daily, per owned plot, or income withholding; paid to town
Embassy taxSeparate external-holder embassy property charge
Town assessmentLand and maturity charge paid by treasury
Nation levyFlat, claimed-chunk or qualifying town-receipts share; owed by member town
Nation upkeepNation treasury, base 10 + 2 per member town/day before index/proration
Ward, rent, outpost and optional mains powerSeparate conditions; do not assume an assessment forecast covers all of them

A Tax Book displays recorded earnings, bills and debts. A personal wallet deposit into a treasury is not new earned income. A refund is not a second job payment.

Server earnings tax bands

Qualifying sources include job pay, bounties, public-market sales and money received through trades. Excluded sources include Starter Work, refunds, admin gifts and transfers of your own money.

Daily gross earnings bandMarginal rate
0–10,0000%
10,000–50,0005%
50,000–100,00010%
100,000–200,00015%
200,000–250,00020%
Above 250,00025%

At 60,000 gross, server tax totals 3,000: 40,000 at 5% and 10,000 at 10%. The top marginal rate does not apply to all prior earnings. Town income withholding can apply too, but combined withholding is bounded by the incoming amount. These thresholds are the reported base configured values.

Forecast town assessment

Base daily land cost is 2 + claimed chunks + chunks above allowance + 5 × outposts. Maturity ramps toward 2 per counted resident over 30 civic uptime days. Ordinary assessment is min(land + maturity, max(land, 12 × counted residents)); the land floor always applies. Indexed bills prorate by elapsed server uptime and carry fractional amounts.

At index 1, a new two-chunk Hamlet with allowance 2 and no outpost has land upkeep 4 per full uptime day. At sufficient age, one counted resident can add up to 2 maturity for total 6. Separate Ward, nation, lease and power obligations can add costs. Development’s reserve forecast is based on assessment, not a promise to cover every service.

Resident protection and debt

New members owe no town tax until both 72 civic hours and 8 added play hours have elapsed. Tax increases have default 24-hour notice. Unpaid resident debt becomes delinquent after 72 hours; owned plots revert after a further 168 hours. Automatic eviction defaults off. Tax policy maxima are configurable, not the actual rate selected by each town.

Town arrears and recovery

If the treasury cannot cover assessment, the town enters arrears. After 72 hours, unresolved arrears enter recovery, which denies building. After a further 168 hours unpaid, claims are released. Physical buildings remain. Fund the correct treasury and inspect recorded debt before relying on a recovery forecast.

A nation can impose levies up to configured base maxima 100,000 flat, 5,000 per claimed chunk, or 50% qualifying town income. Departing does not clear unpaid levy debt; it can block founding or joining another nation. Unpaid nation upkeep has its own default 72-hour dissolution grace and does not dissolve the member towns.

Keep clocks distinct

Billing boundaries can use calendar, Afterfall, uptime or Minecraft-day mode. However, public-pay and earnings-tax counters use 24-hour periods of civic server uptime: civic uptime periods, not a guaranteed local-midnight reset. Verified online play time controls newcomer and justice gates. Starter expiry also has a real-world first-join age. The configuration reference preserves clock defaults and choices.
