Claims, plots and outposts
Claiming land, owning a plot and renting a room give different rights. Review the boundary and price before committing town funds.

Claim land from the treasury
A claim covers a full Minecraft chunk. Use the Surveyor’s Tool to inspect and select land; claims are treasury purchases, separate from the founder’s personal founding fee. Ordinary additions must share an edge with existing land. Batches are checked in a connectable order, with a default 8-chunk batch limit and 256-chunk global town ceiling.
Other towns and camps impose a 4-chunk buffer; world spawn has a 64-block exclusion radius. Where Civic does not already own the land, Afterfall claims are consulted too. Civic only adds denials and cannot force another protection mod to allow an action.
For the n-th chunk, default price is 2,000 × index within allowance, otherwise 2,000 × 1.06^(n − allowance) × index, using the money helper’s rounding. With allowance 2 and index 1, chunk 3 costs 2,120. The founding home claim is included at founding, not another claim purchase. Review the screen quote before confirming.
Pick a plot purpose
| Plot purpose | Sale / plot tax | Useful distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Residential | Yes / Yes | Private or town housing; qualifying rooms can supply development evidence |
| Commercial | Yes / Yes | Commerce; required purpose for development Trade Counter service |
| Civic | No / No | Administration; required home purpose and several service anchors |
| Farm | Yes / Yes | Resident crop harvest, farm entity/use and planting exceptions |
| Wilds | No / No | Permitted natural harvesting; tracked player-placed blocks are excluded |
| Arena | No / No | PvP; default death keeps items/XP and excludes jailing |
| Bank | No / No | Civic purpose; does not implement the planned interest-bearing bank |
| Inn | No / No | Visitor switches and paid time-limited respawn stays |
| Embassy | Yes / Yes | Outsider purchase; external-holder embassy tax is separate |
| Outpost | No / No | Required root purpose for remote town facilities |
| Buffer | No / No | Reserved purpose governed by normal claim protection |
Ownership and permission
Membership is not ownership. Plot owners and trusted players have direct rights; managing officials mainly control unowned town land. Residents normally use switches but cannot freely build in another resident’s plot. District defaults can broaden rights on selected unowned land. Active room tenancy is checked at the block before whole-plot leases; it can deny even a landlord build/break/container access.
Protection covers building, breaking, containers, switches, use and entity interaction. Other hooks restrict explosions, fire spread, cross-owner pistons, incoming fluids, trampling, buckets, foreign respawn points and PvP. A warrant can make a target huntable within its jurisdiction despite Civic no-PvP settings; another mod may still deny damage earlier. Job work permits remain dependent on the poster’s valid rights.
Establish an outpost
A root defaults to at least 16 chunks from home-area land and needs the outpost purpose. Its default surcharge is 500 × index plus the ordinary claim price, with 5/day indexed upkeep in addition to chunk costs. Remote growth uses adjacent claims. A root cannot be removed before attached chunks, and ordinary unclaiming cannot disconnect surviving areas.
With development on, Hamlet permits no outposts; later tiers raise capacity. With development off the default base limit is one outpost per town. Allowance bonuses, outpost limits and the global claim ceiling remain separate.
Sell or rent deliberately
Check whether the purpose permits sale, whether land is owned, and whether an active lease blocks the proposed change. Plot ownership, district sale, trust and tenancy are different flows. For rental steps and notice periods, use districts, rooms and renting. For the bill after expansion, use taxes and assessment.
