Machine access, automation and recovery
Diagnose blocked transactions, distinguish public and owner-only access, and empty or discard batches deliberately.
Read a station’s status line before retrying an action. Its server-side checks can reject the wrong stage, mixed portions, missing supplies, blocked output, stale revision, distance or access.
Ownership and action checks
New machines default to PUBLIC. An owner or operator may change a station to OWNER_ONLY. brewing.defaultAccess changes defaults for newly placed machines; it does not rewrite existing ownership.
Actions validate the current menu, access, distance within eight blocks, recipe revision and inventory counts on the server. The reported design rejects stale requests without producing duplicate output. Two-player races have not been reproduced by this wiki or by the PDF review.
Automation and comparators
Automation requires the server’s automation setting and a machine set to public access. Top insertion routes to inputs; back insertion routes to auxiliary supplies; bottom extraction routes to outputs. Rising redstone edges trigger supported start/finish actions. Turning automation off disables item transfers and redstone actions while GUI processing remains.
| Machine | Comparator behavior |
|---|---|
| Kettle, vat, still | 0 empty; 1 loaded; 2 processing; 15 ready |
| Cask | 15 at target age or while outputs wait |
| Sealing bench, keg | Signal scales with result or stock |
The report does not supply a complete numeric transfer/signal formula for every station. Do not infer protection-mod support from ordinary ownership checks.
Diagnose a blocked batch
| Symptom | Check |
|---|---|
| Kettle refuses Start | Exact ingredient multiset, dedicated water and four serving bottles, output/remainder space |
| Heating or cook time stops | Heat directly below; chunk remains loaded |
| Vat/still/cask refuses portions | Matching batch identity and correct next stage |
| Still refuses Start | Selected 1–8 passes and enough remaining filter uses |
| Cask will not place | Clear 2 × 2 × 3 footprint with correct orientation |
| Bench refuses a serving | Finished, unsealed glass; labels and wax available |
| Keg refuses a deposit | Unsealed glass; canonical identity matches stock; below 16 |
Discard and empty a serving
The machine’s discard flow asks Keep/Spoil. Committing it sacrifices the batch; it is not a pause or an ingredient refund. Breaking an active kettle batch produces spoiled portions.
Sneak-use an unfinished, spoiled or finished serving on a water cauldron to empty one portion. The cauldron loses one water level and you recover the container. Original ingredients are not refunded.
A limit to private cask readings
Owner-only access may not hide a cask’s readings from the Half-Moon Flagon. This is a concern found in the source, not a confirmed gameplay result. The exact access check is recorded below; do not rely on the setting as a proven privacy guarantee for that tool.
Admin & server owner reference
Exact identifiers, original fields and source locators are preserved below. These records describe the documented mod version; they are not commands to run or proof of a new gameplay test.
Owner-only cask concern
The report identified a source-level concern: Half-Moon Flagon’s useOn reads the cask master without the usual canUse call. Owner-only readings may therefore be exposed through the tool. This is an untested access concern, not a confirmed runtime exploit. Include it in a two-client ownership test before relying on privacy.
Original fields and wording
Automation requires both brewing.automation=true and PUBLIC access.
