Effect rules, cooldowns and catalog access
Understand helpful-set replacement, coexisting harms, modifier limits and persistent cooldowns before choosing a drink.
A serving applies its instant effects first, then its timed effects. Quality changes duration; the individual effect rule still determines its trigger, limits and exceptions.
Schematic based on the reported Brewhaven 1.4.0 rules; the text below preserves conditions and exceptions.
Helpful sets and harms
A drink with timed benefits or neutral effects replaces the previous Brewhaven helpful/neutral set, up to two effects. Harms coexist by ID, up to eight. Refreshing an existing harm keeps the longer remaining duration. A ninth distinct harm replaces the shortest; the lowest effect number breaks ties. A harm-only drink does not itself replace the helpful set.
Cooldowns and charge locks
The default drink cooldown is 60 ticks / 3 seconds, configurable from 20–200 ticks.
| Group | Effects | Shared cooldown |
|---|---|---|
| Health | Restorative Sip, Second Wind | 30 seconds |
| Sobriety | Clear Head, Hangover Ease | 30 seconds |
| Blink | Short Blink, Backstep | 30 seconds, including a failed blink |
Spent-charge locks prevent refreshing selected effects to refill their charges before the original lock ends. These locks and group cooldowns use remaining online ticks. Logout is not an offline expiry path. Milk/removal and replacement of the helpful set do not clear persistent locks or cooldowns. Death clears per-effect runtime state but retains knowledge, cooldowns and locks.
Shared modifier resolution
Ground speed and mining combine the strongest favorable multiplier with the strongest adverse multiplier. Damage selects the largest helpful flat addition and adverse flat magnitude, then the strongest helpful outgoing multiplier (cap 1.25) and adverse multiplier.
After vanilla defenses, incoming damage uses one strongest reduction, normally capped at 40%, then the strongest harmful amplification. Leaf-landing, lucky-landing, wither and poison exceptions can exceed that cap. Void and operator-kill damage are exempt. Individual cards preserve narrower trigger/target restrictions.
Open the full effect catalog
Effect names and provider drinks — discovery spoilers covers all 130 definitions, FX-001 through FX-130. Each entry gives benefit/neutral/harm kind, channel, base and grade durations, shipped rule, implementation note where supplied, and links to every provider drink.
The catalog’s descriptive rules are shipped player-facing descriptions. A matching behavior reference does not prove every edge case was runtime-tested. Careful Hands, Patient Angler and Gentle Shepherd have declared approximation limits.
