How Afterfall uses WaterMedia
Watch linked video or listen to online radio in Afterfall, check missing sound and understand what still works without the media mods.

Keep the three responsibilities clear
Afterfall supplies televisions, radio towers, channels, ownership, permissions, power rules, controls and shared world state. WaterMedia loads linked media and handles picture and sound. WaterMedia: Binaries provides the extra software it needs for your computer and some online links. These are third-party libraries by SrRapero720 / WaterMedia Team, rather than Everythingstartup-created gameplay mods.
For the supplied Afterfall setup, playback clients install WaterMedia 3.0.0.23 plus Binaries 3.0.0.6. The optional pair is not required on the dedicated server according to its release instructions. The report traced local consumer source; it did not rebuild Afterfall’s distributable or test this exact pair in Minecraft.
Television
Explanatory diagram of reported behavior; no new gameplay or playback test is claimed.
Use Afterfall’s television instructions for the power and controls. Enter the link through Afterfall’s controls and give it time to load. Once the media is ready, Afterfall tries to follow the shared playback time. Closing the screen releases that playback session.
If the game’s sound system is unavailable, TV can still try to show a silent picture. Missing linked-media support does not remove Afterfall’s documented emergency-broadcast fallback. That fallback belongs to Afterfall, rather than the library or companion.
Radio
Use Afterfall’s radio guide for receivers, towers, station choices and audibility. Linked radio plays sound without a picture. It can refresh an expired media address and move through a playlist. A live stream is joined live. A recorded track can join at the shared time if its length is known and it allows jumping to that point. Tracks with an unknown length are harder to line up precisely.
Radio needs the game’s sound system and fails when it is unavailable. Afterfall’s original music and server-file music are separate paths that remain usable without the optional media pair. Internet streams and YouTube-linked audio depend on that pair; a listed online service is not a guarantee that its links work today.
Shared timing has limits
Afterfall decides the shared playback time and who can control it. Each listener still needs the media mods and a working connection to the source. TV and radio wait for loading before correcting their timing, and use different correction rules. The reports did not test how closely two players’ playback stays aligned.

TV backend conditions
The TV backend trims the URL, resolves it, waits for usable media, creates engines, issues one start request, follows target time after readiness and releases the player on close. Radio uses audio without graphics, handles expiring source addresses and can step through multi-source playlists. Afterfall supplies packet routing, target time, control state and station identity; WaterMedia does not wire these automatically.
Reported locator: WaterMediaBackend.java, WmVideo.tick, follow, release (WaterMedia:L4).
| Setting or condition | Reported behavior |
|---|---|
| Output | OpenGL on render thread/Minecraft executor; OpenAL only with audio context |
| Maximum image | 1280 × 720 configured by Afterfall |
| Start | Set volume, issue start() or startPaused() once; remember startIssued |
| Drift threshold | 2,000 ms |
| Minimum seek gap | 3,000 ms |
| Skip correction | Loading, waiting or an issued start still being processed |
| Corrective seek | Finite seekable source, with output frames and settled pipeline |
| Shared end | Target within final 1,000 ms treated as end |
| Seek clamp | Before the final 500 ms |
| Availability/failure | Checks MediaAPI.ffmpegLoaded; records Exception or LinkageError during engine creation |
These values are local Afterfall implementation choices, not WaterMedia-wide gameplay rules.
Radio backend conditions
Reported locator: WaterMediaRadio.java, WmVoice.open, tick, itemFailed, release (WaterMedia:L5).
| Setting or condition | Reported behavior |
|---|---|
| Quality/output | Q144P; null graphics supplier; MediaAPI.alEngine sound supplier |
| Volume/repeat | Volume adjusted on ticks; single-source item repeats |
| Address expiry | EXPIRED: mrl.reload; FORGOTTEN: fresh MRL from original URL |
| Failure | ERROR / BLOCKED ends voice; failed playlist item advances until all counted candidates have failed |
| Playlist alignment | LinkTimeline can choose slot/offset from target time; unknown durations fall back to sequential handling |
| Finite drift threshold | 3,000 ms |
| Minimum seek gap | 4,000 ms |
| Single finite item offset | floorMod(targetMs, duration) subject to readiness/capability |
| Live | No seek; join live |
| Cleanup | Release current player; reset startIssued |
The start() / startPaused() boolean-return change still requires a compatibility check against the actual dependent JAR. Source tracing alone is not a rebuild or multiplayer test.
